From the City of Destruction to the Holy of Holies | Hebrews 9
What did it mean to be a priest in the tabernacle, and why does it matter to you today?
In this message from Hebrews 9, we step into the sandals of a priest and walk through the outer court past the brazen altar and the laver, into the Holy Place with its lampstand and showbread, and stop at the veil that no ordinary priest could pass.
From there, the author of Hebrews draws our eyes upward to the heavenly tabernacle, where Christ entered “not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood… once for all, having obtained eternal redemption” (Hebrews 9:12).
In this message:
• The earthly tabernacle as a pattern of the heavenly one (Exodus 25:8–9)
• General vs. special revelation, and why we could not know these things unless God revealed them
• Why the Old Covenant sacrifices could never cleanse the conscience
• Two reasons many Christians still live with a guilty conscience
• Covenant and testament: why the death of the Testator was necessary
• “Without shedding of blood there is no remission” (Hebrews 9:22)
• The torn veil and our access to the Holiest by a new and living way (Hebrews 10:19–20)
• Why Christ is not sacrificed again each time we sin
• “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27)
•Running the race with our eyes on His soon return
We come from the city of destruction, but through the blood of Jesus we have been washed, made kings and priests to God, and given boldness to enter His presence. Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, and to those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear a second time for salvation.
Are you atoned for? Is your conscience clean? Are you ready?
